Professional Accomplishments  

Law Practice - Mr. Merrell is an associate in the law firm of Babcock Scott & Babcock, where he practices in the areas of construction law and business transactions.     

Construction Background - Mr. Merrell has taught construction law as a Fulbright Scholar in the Kyrgyz Republic and as a visiting professor at Brigham Young University-Idaho.  Prior to attending law school, Mr. Merrell worked in the construction industry for over ten years as a roofing laborer, a project engineer for a national commercial electrical contractor, and a land acquisition analyst for a national residential builder/developer. 

Education  

Mr. Merrell received a B.S. in Construction Management from Brigham Young University .  He received his Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Idaho .  While in law school, Mr. Merrell was the student board member for the Idaho State Bar Dispute Resolution Section and received 60 hours of alternative dispute resolution training.   

Professional Association Involvement  

Mr. Merrell is admitted to practice before the Supreme Courts of Utah and Idaho and the United States District Courts for the Districts of Utah and Idaho .  He is a member of the Construction Law, Dispute Resolution, Litigation, and Environmental Law sections of the Utah State Bar.  Mr. Merrell also serves as a member of the Industry Advisory Board for the Architecture and Construction Management Department at Brigham Young University-Idaho. 

Publications & Lectures  

Mr. Merrell has written articles on the construction industry for the Idaho State Bar and the Intermountain Contractor.  He has been a guest lecturer for the Construction Management Departments at Brigham Young University-Idaho and Boise State University .
